If you have children or animals in your home, you likely deal with carpet stains on a constant basis. For this reason, you should understand the different carpet cleaning methods you can use for different types of stains. This will allow you to be armed and ready the next time a stain comes along.

Red Punch

Red punch has a red dye in it that may seem impossible to get out. One way you can do this is to use a carpet steamer. You can rent one if you do not own one yourself. They are typically easy to use. Simply fill up the water container with your cleaning solution and hot water. Follow the directions on how much soap and water you should add. While you have it, you may want to go ahead and clean your entire carpet. Whatever you do, make straight lines while you are using the steam cleaner. When you are finished, let the carpet completely dry before you walk on it.

Ink

If you have ink on your carpet, this stain can be difficult to remove but you can get it out. First thing you need to do is to blot it out if you are there when it happened. Lay a paper towel over the stain and press on it to soak up the excess stain. When you have finished, pour milk over the stain until the entire area is wet. Let it sit for a few minutes, and then use a brush to rub over the area gently. Use a paper towel to blot out the ink stain. You may need to repeat this a few times for the stain to be completely gone.

Urine

If one of your pets urinated on your carpet, it will leave a stain along with a bad odor and bacteria. If the area is still wet, blot it up with paper towels. Use a shop vac, if you have one, to extract any urine that may be left over.

Fill up a spray bottle with warm water and add a few drops of liquid dish washing detergent. Put the lid on the bottle and shake it up to mix. Spray the stain directly until it is good and wet. Let it sit for a few minutes, and then use a shop vac or some paper towels to blot it out to remove the liquid. If the stain is still there, repeat these steps again.

Go to a pet store and purchase an antibacterial deodorizing spray that will kill the odor and bacteria. Follow the directions on the bottle on how to use it.

If you cannot get any of these stains out using these methods, contact a carpet cleaning company who can use more powerful equipment to clean your carpet.
